Backroads Now Offering Rare Taste of Costa Rican La Minita Coffee
Backroads Coffee introduces a new line of exclusive coffee called La Minita, one of the most sought after coffees anywhere in the world. Grown in the mountainous Tarrazu region of Costa Rica, this special coffee plantation spans some 1,200 acres of steep terrain and is home to 1.7 million coffee trees.
Each year the plantation produces roughly 1.4 million pounds of coffee beans. As many as 100 full time horticulturalists, or "farmers," work the plantation, helping tend to the coffee trees which must be intended to individually multiple times annually. They are joined by over 600 additional "pickers" during the height of crop harvest. At the La Minita plantation, the coffee begins to ripen in late September as berries turn red and plentiful.
The flavor of the coffee is consistent with chocolate truffle, though differing harvests yield unique tastes.
La Minita is available online for $13.25 per pound. Customers can also special order La Minita from Backroads Coffee by calling (800) 634-4951.
